Congratulations to Angie Taylor, our Employee of the Month for March!

Congratulations to Angie Taylor, our Employee of the Month for March!

Angelia Taylor began working in our Head Start program in 2015, following two very active years as a Head Start volunteer. Over the past 10 years she served as a Nutrition Aide, Teacher Aide, and Teacher Assistant at the old Jordan and Baldwinville classroom sites. Last month, shortly after those sites were combined at our new location in Baldwinsville, she became the front desk Administrative Assistant at our Merrick site.

Angie’s years of knowledge and experience, as well as her ability and motivation to learn new things, have helped her excel in all of her various Head Start roles, and they have benefited the many people she has built relationships with along the way, by filling in wherever needed or providing technical assistance or just listening and offering some very appreciated advice. As one of her supervisors commented: “She sets her goals high and is someone staff looks up to for help and guidance.”

Congratulations and thanks to Angelia Taylor, our Employee of the Month for March!

Foster Grandparents Receive Grant Support

Foster Grandparents Receive Grant Support

A huge thank you to the Literacy Coalition of Onondaga County for awarding a $3,000 grant to PEACE, Inc.’s Foster Grandparent Program! With this generous support, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteering in Syracuse City Schools and Head Start/Early Head Start Classrooms will receive specialized early childhood literacy training — empowering them to make an even greater impact on young learners’ lives. This is but one wonderful example of our Seniors imparting wisdom while continuing their own lifelong learning. It’s a win for everyone involved!

Lady Dolphins Host Big Brothers Big Sisters

Lady Dolphins Host Big Brothers Big Sisters

What an incredible day with the Le Moyne College Women’s Basketball Team! On Saturday, despite their upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament game, the Lady Dolphins took the time to host our Big Brothers Big Sisters program for a day full of learning, fun, and camaraderie. Over 25 of our bigs and littles gathered at Ted Grant Court, where they received hands-on coaching from Head Coach Nick Dipillo and his fantastic staff. From mastering jump shots to dribbling drills, everyone had a blast! The day was filled with competitive games, awesome prizes, and even a hearty lunch shared with the players. Our littles had the chance to connect with the team, discuss their hard work, and get a glimpse of college life at LeMoyne.

A huge thank you to Coach Dipillo and the Lady Dolphins for their warmth and enthusiasm. We’re excited to announce that we’ll be collaborating on two to three events each year going forward!

Coming Together to Help Clothe Our Community

Coming Together to Help Clothe Our Community

The PEACE, Inc. team was incredibly grateful for our community volunteers on a recent Wednesday. Special shout out to the team at Haylor, Freyer & Coon, Inc. who helped organize more than 4 pallets of Carter’s Brand children’s clothing that were donated through Delivering Good. Now that everything is organized by size, season, etc. these new clothes will be distributed throughout the community through our Head Start Program and our Family Resource Centers. This was a perfect confluence of donated goods + donated services to = a big win for people in our community who need it most. Thank you to all who took time to make this possible!

Congratulations to Mary DeVore, our Employee of the Month for February!

Congratulations to Mary DeVore, our Employee of the Month for February!

Mary DeVore has been a Family Worker in our Head Start program since October 2022. Her caseloads have covered several different locations over the past couple of years, and currently includes our collaborations with the Elmcrest Northside Early Education Center, Atonement Day Care, and Lydia’s Lullaby. Mary has also covered additional caseloads while we have been short-staffed at our collaborations with Dr. Weeks Elementary and Cab Horse Commons Day Care. Working with families at so many different sites has given Mary the opportunity to share her knowledge and skills with new Family Workers, who have expressed their appreciation for her helpfulness and expertise.
