The Bright Futures Youth Group at the County South Family Resource Center recently visited the Tully Post Office as part of its ongoing career exploration activities, giving youth a behind-the-scenes look at an important community service.

During the visit, participants toured the facility and learned how mail moves through the postal system from start to finish. Clerk Derek shared insights into the daily operations of the Post Office and introduced students to some of the unique items that pass through the mail. Youth were surprised to learn that everything from bees and birds to coconuts from Hawaii can be shipped through the postal service under the right conditions.

The experience also highlighted the many career opportunities connected to the postal industry. Students learned about the roles of mail carriers, mechanics, customer service staff, and even graphic designers who help create logos, signage, and marketing materials. By exploring workplaces in their own community, youth gain a better understanding of the wide range of careers available to them and the many paths they can pursue in the future.

The Bright Futures Youth Group at the County South Family Resource Center visited Delphi Falls County Park for a day of outdoor exploration and career discovery.

While enjoying the beauty of the park, youth learned about the many people who work behind the scenes to create, maintain, and improve public spaces. From landscape architects and construction crews to maintenance teams and office staff, participants gained a better understanding of the wide variety of careers that help parks serve communities every day.

The visit offered more than just a chance to enjoy the outdoors. It helped youth see how their interests and skills could connect to future career opportunities. The Bright Futures After School Group from the County South Family Resource Center had a creative and engaging experience with their latest project, painting “Pet Portraits.” Families shared photos of their children’s favorite pets, giving students the opportunity to turn meaningful memories into works of art.

The Bright Futures After School Group from the County South Family Resource Center recently explored creativity and self-expression through a meaningful “Who I Am” collage activity. Students began by using a light source to create shadows of their profiles, which were then traced and carefully cut out.

From there, each student filled their silhouette with images, colors, and words that represent their identity, interests, and goals. This hands-on project encouraged youth to reflect on who they are while building confidence and expressing themselves in a creative way.

Members of the Bright Futures After School Youth Group from the County South Family Resource Center recently visited WSYR-TV NewsChannel 9 as part of their ongoing career exploration journey. During a private tour, students had the exciting opportunity to watch a live 4:00 p.m. newscast and go behind the scenes of a working television station.

Students met a variety of professionals who help bring the news to life, including anchors, a meteorologist, a sportscaster, a director, and a producer. Through these interactions, they gained a better understanding of the many roles and skills needed to run a successful broadcast and media operation.

The group’s tour was led by Tim Fox, who also spoke with students about local colleges, internships, and potential career paths in broadcasting and media. Experiences like this help young people explore their interests, build confidence, and begin imagining their future goals. We are proud of our Bright Futures students for continuing to learn, grow, and take steps toward their futures.
