West Genesee Students Support Community Through Volunteer Service

West Genesee Students Support Community Through Volunteer Service

The PEACE, Inc. Free Tax Prep Program recently recognized students from the West Genesee Honor Society for their outstanding volunteer service during this year’s tax preparation season.

The students contributed more than 90 hours of volunteer time, helping community members complete tax returns and access an important financial resource. Their support helped make free tax preparation services more accessible for local families and individuals throughout the community.

Volunteer efforts like these play an important role in strengthening community support systems and helping neighbors access valuable services. The dedication shown by the West Genesee Honor Society students reflects the positive impact young people can have when they give back through service and community action.

Celebrating Camillus Senior Center Volunteers

Celebrating Camillus Senior Center Volunteers

The PEACE, Inc. Senior Nutrition Program recently visited the Camillus Senior Center to recognize and thank the dedicated volunteers who help keep the center running smoothly and support daily operations for older adults in the community.

Guests gathered for a Tuscany-themed lunch featuring spaghetti and meatballs, with sparkling juice served at each table. The event created a welcoming space for connection, conversation, and shared appreciation among participants. We were also joined by County Legislator Ken Bush Jr. and Councilor Chris Cesta, who both expressed gratitude for the volunteers’ ongoing commitment. Councilor Chris Cesta also led an engaging session focused on the importance of using and caring for the right tools in the kitchen, adding a practical learning component to the day.

We are grateful for the time, care, and dedication our volunteers bring to PEACE, Inc. each day. Their support strengthens our programs and helps create meaningful moments like this, where community connection, learning, and appreciation come together.

PEACE, Inc. Teams up With Home Headquarters Annual Block Blitz!

PEACE, Inc. Teams up With Home Headquarters Annual Block Blitz!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated PEACE, Inc. staff for their hard work and commitment during the 2025 Annual Neighborhood Block Blitz on South Avenue in Syracuse, organized by Home HeadQuarters. Our team joined forces with other community members to remove brush and complete landscaping work at the Brady Faith Center. It was a powerful demonstration of what can be accomplished when individuals and organizations come together to create lasting, positive change in our neighborhoods.

The Home HeadQuarters Annual Neighborhood Block Blitz is a long-standing community event that brings together homeowners, volunteers, and local stakeholders to improve up to 50 properties in a single day, regardless of weather. Held in various Syracuse neighborhoods, the initiative focuses on property repair, landscaping, and painting—all offered at no cost to residents or property owners. With support from more than 300 volunteers representing area businesses, schools, churches, and government agencies, the Block Blitz helps enhance neighborhood appearance, spark community involvement, and encourage homeowner investment. It also plays a key role in supporting Home HeadQuarters’ broader mission of affordable housing, purposeful lending, and sustainable homeownership.

Their skilled team quickly tackled a long list of tasks—including painting, clearing overgrown bushes, cutting back invasive vines, and removing persistent weeds—completely revitalizing the exterior.

Thanks to their dedication and effort, the center now boasts a refreshed, welcoming appearance that truly reflects the vital work happening inside. We’re incredibly grateful to VIP Structures for helping create a more inviting space for the community.

NUCOR Steel Auburn Back at Liverpool Head Start

NUCOR Steel Auburn Back at Liverpool Head Start

The Nucor Steel Auburn team returned to the Liverpool Head Start location to tackle more landscaping work, focusing on clearing overgrowth around the playground and back alley. Trees, vines, and weeds didn’t stand a chance—they were cut down and cleared out quickly, filling a pickup truck four times with debris.

While the team worked hard, the children enjoyed chatting through the fence, asking questions, and learning from their teachers about why the cleanup was important.

Thanks to their dedication and teamwork, the entire job—and more—was completed in just two hours. We’re truly grateful to Nucor for helping create a cleaner, safer space for our kids to play and grow!
