Employee of the Month for September is Travonda Baker

Travonda Baker joined our Head Start program in April of 2023 as a Health Advocate at the Sumner site. Since then, she has consistently performed her duties very efficiently, and has shown a willingness to ask how she can be more effective. Travonda has also put in a great deal of additional effort in recent months while there has been a nurse vacancy in her building.

If you see Travonda today at Sumner, or tomorrow at our Staff Day event, be sure to congratulate our Employee of the Month for September 2024!

Success Story: Daborha Cooley – Teacher Assistant at Merrick Head Start earns the Child Development Associate Credential!

Daborha has been working with young children for most of her life. She recognized the need to enhance her skills and knowledge to provide even better support to her students and colleagues. She enrolled in a comprehensive early childhood education training program, the Child Development Associate Credential, through the Early Childhood Career Pathway Program at PEACE Inc.

Over the course of 120 hours, Daborha immersed herself in various aspects of Early Childhood education, from child development theories to practical classroom management techniques; from developmentally appropriate practices to effective communication strategies and health and safety.

After completing the training through Care Courses, Daborha faced the final exam with both anticipation and determination. The exam tested her on a range of topics covered during the training, including theoretical knowledge and practical applications. Her preparation and commitment paid off as she passed her exam, demonstrating her understanding of early childhood education principles. Daborha’s success in completing the training and final exam serves as an inspiration for her peers and shows her commitment to providing the best possible care and learning experiences for the children she serves.

Daborha’s story is a testament to the power of dedication and continuous learning. Her completion of 120 hours of training has not only advanced her career but also positively impacted the Merrick Head Start community. Her journey underscores the value of investing in professional development and the profound difference it can make in the lives of both educators and the children they serve.

Congratulations Daborha! PEACE Inc. is proud of you!

“Let Me Be Great” Summer Program!

“Let Me Be Great” Summer Program!

As summer winds down, we’re excited to spotlight all the amazing moments from our “Let Me Be Great” Summer Program!

This year, 39 kids participated in our program. They went on daily excursions to explore our state and county parks, visit local colleges and farms, and journey through nature preserves. Each field trip provided the kids with enriching educational experiences and opportunities for physical activities. From the thrill of kayaking to the serenity of bird watching, the children engaged in various activities such as swimming, drumming, hiking, and crafting.

Additionally, to start each day, the kids were treated to engaging presentations by guest speakers who shared financial knowledge, delving into topics such as stocks, interest rates, and savings accounts. At the end of the program, the group piled into a coach bus and traveled to Niagara Falls to experience the Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mists tours. Lunch was served at their international food court, and a trolley guided everyone around the grounds.

Thank you to all our amazing partners, facilitators, chaperones, and volunteers! Your support made all the difference.

Westside Back to School Giveaway

Westside Back to School Giveaway

On August 26, 2024, PEACE, Inc. Westside Family Resource Center held its annual “Back to School” Giveaway, a heartwarming event that brought joy to our community.

This year, we were thrilled to distribute over 300 backpacks to children in need, ensuring they start the school year fully prepared. The event would not have been possible without the generous support of our vendors, collaborators, and partners, who selflessly shared valuable resources with our families, making a significant impact on the community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the providers who joined us in this endeavor and made the event a huge success. Their contributions embody the spirit of compassion and unity, and their support goes a long way in enriching the lives of the families we serve. As we look back on this event, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families in our community.
